Four Amigos – Beloved Community development has been recognized with a VISION 2050 Award from the Puget Sound Regional Council! Developed by El Centro de la Raza, this transformative six-story development in Seattle provides 87 affordable homes for families while co-locating essential community services, including the José Martí Child Development Center and a new space for the Church of Hope. Named after civil rights leaders Roberto Maestas, Bernie Whitebear, Bob Santos, and Larry Gossett, the building features culturally significant art by local Latinx artists with Afro-Latino, Indigenous, and Mestizo influences and incorporates sustainable design elements like solar panels and rain gardens.
The VISION 2050 Awards recognize innovative projects that help ensure a sustainable future as the Puget Sound region grows, and this recognition affirms that Four Amigos represents the kind of equitable, inclusive community building our region needs. Congratulations to all project partners (El Centro de la Raza, Beacon Development Group, Church of Hope, Walsh Construction Co., Nakano Associates – now MIG, TCC & Associates, I. L. Gross Structural Engineers, Tres West Engineers, Inc., 4EA Building Science, A3 Acoustics, LLP, 7 Directions Architects and Planners, and Wilkerson Design Lab).
