Mercy Burien Family Housing Ground Breaking Ceremony

September 19, 2025

It was an honor for SMR Architects to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mercy Burien Family Housing project! We are serving as the architect for this 90-unit permanently affordable development that will provide stable homes for families earning at or below 60% of the area median income.

This campus represents a new model for addressing family homelessness in Washington state. We’re particularly proud that 30 of the units we’re designing will be reserved for very low-income families transitioning out of homelessness, allowing them to move directly into stable housing while maintaining connections to their schools, jobs, and community.

By incorporating spacious two- to four-bedroom units into the design, this project will bridge the significant gap in family-sized affordable housing throughout King County. We can’t wait to see families calling this community home when construction is completed in mid-2027.

Congratulations to our partners at Mercy Housing Northwest, Mary’s Place, and Walsh Construction Co. for bringing this groundbreaking project to life!
