12th Avenue Arts

12th Avenue Arts represents a unique 14-year partnership and effort between Community Roots Housing, the Seattle Police Department, and a consortium of three Capitol Hill based theater groups.

Program

The project provides 88 units of workforce housing, two performing arts venues, vibrant ground floor retail and restaurant space, incubator office space for non-profit organizations, and a secure underground parking facility for police officers of the East Precinct. The main entry is pulled back from the sidewalk, creating an outdoor plaza. An undulating veil of fenestration above also serves as the building marquee.

Winner of ULI’s 2015 Global Awards for Excellence; 2014 Puget Sound Regional Council’s VISION 2040 Award; City of Seattle’s 2015 People’s Choice Urban Design Awards – 2nd Place in Midrise Category; 2015 AGC Build Washington Award.
