The Estelle

DESC’s The Estelle provides permanent supportive housing for 91 formerly homeless men and women living with serious mental illness or other disabling conditions.

Client

DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center)

Location

Seattle, Washington

Program

The building opened in February 2018 in Rainier Valley, a few blocks south of the Mt. Baker light rail station. The Estelle is six stories, with studio apartments located on floors two through six. The ground floor contains offices for the on-site staff and resident common space, including a kitchen, dining/community room, courtyard, television lounge, and a small computer lab. The building also includes staff parking and parking for agency-owned vehicles. A result of a unique partnership between DESC and Harborview Medical Center, The Estelle provides supportive housing and quality healthcare within the same building. 15 units are dedicated to people exiting the hospital with healthcare needs that exceed the services offered in conventional residential care systems, and on-site healthcare services are available to all residents.
