Douglas Ito, FAIA
Douglas was selected as the 2024 winner of the AIA’s Whitney M. Young Jr. Award for his contributions to affordable housing and designing projects confronting the racial, social, and political injustices that continue to pervade society. Douglas was also elevated to fellowship in the AIA for the work he has done for the field of architecture and affordable housing.
Douglas has a long and successful history of working on affordable and supportive multi-family housing developments for individuals and families. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the creation of over 2,800 units of affordable housing, including more than 1,300 units specifically dedicated to permanent supportive housing.
Douglas actively advocates for affordable housing at both local and state levels. He recently served on the Board of Directors for the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle | King County, he is a member of the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Affordable Housing Advisory Board, the City of Tacoma’s Affordable Housing Action Strategy Technical Advisory Group and also serves on the board of the AIA Washington Council.
