Location

Program

The building takes inspiration from the adjacent Mt. Baker light rail station and the imagery of two railway boxcars passing on a track. With 57 studio, one-, and three-bedroom units, the project provides artist live/work housing for residents earning 30% to 60% of area median income. In an attempt to foster an active and communal environment, amenities include a music practice room, community room, and 8,500 sq. ft. shared roof deck. With a total construction cost of $12 million, the building is Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards-certified and includes a solar hot water preheat system, a 4,800 sq. ft. green roof, and rooftop agricultural plantings for urban farming. On the ground floor, 12 commercial spaces ranging from 275 to 1,170 sq. ft. take advantage of the wide sidewalk and adjacent plaza to activate the site into a vibrant urban village serving the entire Mt. Baker neighborhood.
