Dekko Place

This seven-story, mixed-use project is the result of collaboration between Gethsemane Lutheran Church and the Compass Housing Alliance.

Program

This project included the renovation of the church sanctuary building and construction of a new, shared seven-story structure. The first two floors house the church’s chapel and garden, community spaces, and offices, as well as Dekko Place’s residential community facilities, offices, and manager units. The upper five floors comprise 50 units of permanent affordable housing and a residential rooftop deck with garden. The lower level is Hope Center, home to Mary’s Place, a day shelter for homeless women and their children, and community service programs of the church.

Highlights

Church spaces include chapel, social meeting spaces, small kitchen, offices and classrooms, as well as caretakers unit; 2013 Gold Nugget Award of Merit; 2014 Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award.
