Program

The Sunset Area Transformation Plan outlines a strategy for community renewal in Renton’s Sunset neighborhood. Developed by Renton Housing Authority, Sunset Gardens represents the seventh affordable housing development in the Sunset Area since 2012. Each project brings the neighborhood closer to realizing the vision set forth by the Renton Highlands Task Force in 2007, when the transformation efforts began. Sunset Gardens innovatively integrates cost-effective materials and design solutions to create a welcoming environment for its residents: veterans, people with disabilities, and seniors. The project’s 76 affordable housing units are thoughtfully designed to maximize functionality while maintaining a warm, inviting atmosphere. The inclusion of the Renton Housing Authority’s administrative offices on the ground floor demonstrates creative use of space, bringing housing management closer to residents and potentially improving communication and service delivery. The second floor includes a large community room and rooftop courtyard, while each story offers a convenient meeting space by the elevator lobby. Sunset Gardens’ status as the first project in Renton to utilize HB 1590 funding highlights the innovative approach taken to meet the client’s objectives and pave the way for future affordable housing developments in the region.
